Romance isn’t really my genre, but I’ve seen a couple writers declare their romances to be without sex, or focused on feelings or something else. Maybe it works, I don’t know. I made a list though, of tropes and plots, which come to mind when I think of romance novels. I don’t know if it’s helpful for those writers, but here it is-

• The lovers’ triangle
• The rake
• The abduction
• The rescue
• The jealous lover/suitor
• The jilted lover
• Societal gossip
• The miscommunication

• The wedding
• The wedding gone wrong (in any way imaginable)
• The ill suited match
• First time
• The saboteur
• The pregnancy (unexpected or otherwise)
